چکیده
TSVETKOV, Ts., Ts. TAKEVA and A. SOLAK, 2006. To the problem of experimental hibernation I. About the role of endogenous hibernation trigger. Bulg. J. Agric. Sci., 1-5 Experimented 24 white mice (Mus Musculus), divided into 2 groups of twelve. The fist 12 animals have been injected intraperitoneal (i.p.) with blood plasma (in different doses) from ground squirrels by the time of deep hibernation. By the animals rapid decrease in body temperature has been noticed. Interesting to be outlined, by a lower temperature the hypothermic period has started earlier. In the second group of mice injected i.p. blood plasma from summer-active ground squirrels in identical doses. The experimented mice have established no change in the body temperature. Thus stated, the possible factor causing hibernation can be found in the plasma by the time of deep winter sleep and indicates biological activity by the nonhibernating species as well.

Myostatin levels in skeletal muscle of hibernating ground squirrels.
Myostatin, a negative regulator of muscle mass, is elevated during disuse and starvation. Mammalian hibernation presents a unique scenario, where animals are hypocaloric and in torpor, but the extent of muscle protein loss is minimized. We hypothesized that myostatin expression, which is usually increased early in disuse and under hypocaloric conditions, could be suppressed in this unique model...
متن کاملFood shortage can drive body temperature regulation in wild heterothermic vertebrates
Food availability is expected to trigger hibernation and torpor (ie heterothermy) use. Yet, laboratory experiments under controlled conditions dominate, and this hypothesis remains largely untested under natural conditions. Further experimental manipulations of food availability must therefore be conducted in the wild, accounting for other covarying environmental stressors.
متن کاملDecreases in body temperature and body mass constitute pre-hibernation remodelling in the Syrian golden hamster, a facultative mammalian hibernator
Hibernation is an adaptive strategy for surviving during periods with little or no food availability, by profoundly reducing the metabolic rate and the core body temperature (T b). Obligate hibernators (e.g. bears, ground squirrels, etc.) hibernate every winter under the strict regulation of endogenous circannual rhythms, and they are assumed to undergo adaptive remodelling in autumn, the pre-h...

Background—Hypothermic myocardial arrest is necessary to complete most cardiac surgery, which limits the success of such operations. Similarly, cold, inhospitable environments limit the survival of warm-blooded animals. Animals have successfully adapted to this challenge through hibernation. Hibernation is an energy-conserving state, now known to be governed by cyclical variation in endogenous ...
